Phnom Penh: The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Indian Charity School, located in Tuol Krasaing Village, Roka Khpos Sangkat, Takhmao City, Kandal Province, distributed gifts to more than 300 poor students to celebrate the birthday of the King of Cambodia on May 14, 2024.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Professor Sen Udom of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose School stated that the charity event was held to honor the birthday of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni. He emphasized that this celebration also strengthens the solidarity between Cambodia and India.

"I want to celebrate this day to be happy. As an Indian, I am happy to be here, especially with the support of the embassy," he said.

The event was also attended by representatives of the Embassy of India and included free food, books, pens, and medical check-ups for the poor.

A representative of the Indian Association in Cambodia highlighted that since 1993, the association has been promoting friendship with Cambodia through various charitable events, cultural exchanges, sports, and religious activities. This participation reflects the long-standing relationship between the two countries.

Mr. Tin Chamroeun, President of the Informal Economic Movement of the Union of Youth Federations of Phnom Penh, supported the activities of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose School. He noted that such initiatives not only help children and the poor but also strengthen the bond between Cambodia and India.

His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, born on May 14, 1953, will be 71 years old in 2024.

Diplomatic relations between Cambodia and India began in 1952 and have continued to flourish. India was the first democracy to recognize Cambodia after the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime and has been actively involved in various activities, including training and human resource development since 1981. India has also participated in the peace process, sent Blue Helmet peacekeepers to Cambodia, and provided COVID-19 vaccines.
